The colors and styles represent not only the people and landscape of the state itself, but also the period when those plates were issued. There's a sizeable collector market for these pieces of automotive history; a great resource is the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association.

It's no wonder, then, the proposals for new plate designs usually ignite fights across entire states. Californians are so nostalgic for their old plates that there's actually legisla

"Maybe New York should come out with their 1966 through 1973 license plate with orange yellow lettering on a blue background. " there's one of those parked by my boyfriends house... has been for a few days (on a relatively new truck)

I hate the current plates here in Ohio. Actually, all the Ohio plates from the past 10 years or so have been hideous.

The Wyoming bucking horse is a classic.

The best NY plate ever is the 1986 version. White background, red stripes top and bottom, blue lettering, and the Statue of Liberty graphic. Classic simplicity.

Got one on a truck but the rest have standard plates, enjoy them if you got a good one years ago.

My page has frozen up. I can type in the comment box, but it wont let me scroll up to read the article. I, unlike most people on here like reading the articles before I post. You wont be getting a two letter reply out of me. OK.Hey hey it just let me scroll whoo hoo. Interesting about the plates. My Gradfather had the same license plate number for YEARS, back in the day they aparently had the first 3 letters or so represent a specific county in OH. and he kept renewing his over and over again. My dad has said several times he would like to buy a personalize plate with the exact same number as his father had when he grew up.
